Art Scot is a magazine about Scottish art, an independent view on Scottish painting, printmaking, and related arts. It’s written by enthusiasts for other enthusiasts. We have an associated Exhibition space.
Jane Adamson-
Jane Adamson is a retired architect who trained in Edinburgh. After 10 years in Hong Kong, followed by 20 years in Singapore, she returned to Scotland in 2018 to explore the biggest island she has lived on for decades. She lives in Dundee.
Robert De Mey -
Robert De Mey is a psychiatrist who has worked in Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway since 1999. He started collecting art in 1989, developing his interest and knowledge. His first curatorial project is ConvergeDiverge, and this has been accompanied by an exhibition catalogue, and a monograph on Ronald Rae, published by the Unicorn Group, available from Waterstones. He lives in Ayrshire.
Douglas Erskine -
Douglas Erskine is a writer, researcher, dealer and collector with a great interest in Scottish art. At the moment, he is especially interested in postwar painting in the west of Scotland and in idiosyncratic cultural practice in the postwar period; he has researched the life and work of John Byrne extensively. He is currently preparing the first critical monograph dedicated to exploring the life and work of the neglected Glasgow artist Alan Fletcher (1930-58). He lives in Edinburgh
Malcolm McCoig -
Malcolm McCoig is a painter and printmaker, who had a successful career teaching at Gray’s School Of Art, Aberdeen. His artistic work is discussed in art-scot 1. He lives in Angus
Duncan Macmillan -
Duncan Macmillan is Professor Emeritus of the History of Scottish Art at the University of Edinburgh, art critic for The Scotsman and author of numerous widely acclaimed books, the most recent of which is Scotland and the Origins of Modern Art ( Lund Humphries, 2023). He lives in Edinburgh.
Maurice Millar -
Maurice Millar is author and publisher of the first detailed biography of John MacLauchlan Milne, RSA, The Missing Colourist. He lives in Perthshire.
Rosie Shackleton -
Rosie Shackleton is a museum curator, poet, and art lover. She currently works as the Assistant Curator at North Lanarkshire Council and was the curator and researcher for the Millie Frood retrospective, “Strange Horizons." She lives in Edinburgh.
Roger Spence -
Roger Spence is an art enthusiast who has worked as a concert and festival promoter in Scotland for over forty years. Amongst his interests are art from Arbroath and the Scottish art world of the mid- and late-1940’s. He lives in Perthshire.
Jonathan Wills -
Jonathan Wills is a renowned Shetland journalist, writer, naturalist and mariner. He was the first student rector of Edinburgh University. In a career of over forty years he has been a Councillor, editor of the Shetland Times, and set up the (online) Shetland News. He has written many books on Shetland subjects, the latest of which is Logical Confusion: the artistry of Mike McDonnell. He lives in Shetland.
Gillian Zealand -
Gillian Zealand is a writer, editor and former museum curator. She has written extensively on historical subjects, especially in Angus; produced guide books and pamphlets; and is a longstanding contributor to The Book of the Braemar Gathering. She has also edited books of work by her father, Colin Gibson, the noted artist and nature writer. She lives in Angus.
